Chance the Rapper, a hip-hop artist from Chicago, USA, has released three works since 2012 through streaming without contracting with a major music label. “10 Day”, “Acid Rap”, “Coloring Book” (The hat Chance the Rapper wears with the “3” logo on it is meant to be the third of the three). And each of his works was recognized and talked about, and he recorded his big breakthrough. With independent activities and no CD sales, he became the first artist to win three Grammy Awards solely through streaming. *Currently (2021), a CD album has been released.
We don’t know much about music, but Chance the Rapper’s poetry and his unique voice are positive and humorous, and many of his songs are uplifting. Looking at the lyrics, it seems that his songs and the songs he participates in are influenced by the Bible.
The song “All Day Long” is from a recent album. In this song, the words “This is the day” appear. It seems that this album is also about Chance the Rapper himself getting married and his first album. The words are also found in the Psalms of the Bible.

“Ultralight Beam” is a collaborative song by Chance the Rapper that participated in the album of Kanye West, an artist from Chicago, USA. Even the title of the song itself shows the influence of the Bible, and the overlap between the Bible verse and the song gives a strong impression.

Other songs, such as “Angels”, “Holy” with Justin Bieber, “Sunday Candy” with Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, and Chance The Rapper & Jeremih “One More Cry”, may have been influenced by the Bible. And of course, all the songs are very good. As we look around the world today, we can see the division of people in the U.S., the spread of infectious diseases around the world, and other chaotic situations that have many people feeling anxious about the future. We also hear that the world is moving toward a Biblical world (prophecy left by the Bible).
Artists like Chance the Rapper, who is highly inspired and talented, seem to be sensitive to what is happening in the world and the future and deliver it to the listeners in the form of expression. As I wrote earlier, we believe that listening to music to lift our spirits and change our mood is one way to boost our immune system and stay healthy. Even though I was born in Japan and have no special religious beliefs, we should continue to enjoy music that makes us feel happy and peaceful.
