The scent of Santa Maria Novella

Santa Maria Novella in Florence, the city of central Italy. Known as the oldest pharmacy in the world, its origin is said to be 1221 (13th century). The monks of the small Florentine monastery of Santa Maria Fra Le Vigne (which later evolved into the Church of Santa Maria Novella) grew herbs and other plants on the church grounds, and medical care using medicinal herbs began as a medical examination activity of the monastic community. Santa Maria Novella was founded in 1612 as an officially licensed pharmacy.

Currently, there are stores all over the world (in Japan, there are stores in 8 cities including Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka), where you can buy scents and healing products that will make you feel the air of the city and the church of Florence, Italy.

About potpourri

Santa Maria Novella has products including perfumes, lotions, soaps, and creams, as well as room fragrances such as potpourri and candles. The potpourri, in particular, has a price and volume that makes it easy for beginners to enjoy the scent, and is made from flowers and plants that naturally bloom in the hills of Tuscany, as well as plant fruits, leaves, and resins (leaves and berries are impregnated with essential oils) to create a spicy, elegant, and relaxing fragrance.

The longevity of the scent depends on the amount used, but 100 grams last for about six months. You can choose from a variety of potpourri containers, including original sachets, waxed ones, pots, and refills, to suit your needs. * If you buy a box of potpourri or a refill, and you don’t use all of the potpourri, store it in an airtight container or a ziplock to keep it from being exposed to the air.

In such cases, you need to relax with scents

With infectious diseases raging in Japan and around the world, one of the ways to relax is to enjoy the scents and healing of Florence, Italy at home. The scent of potpourri is also available in Eau de Cologne in the same items and scents, and some products can be enjoyed outdoors. During the long period of self-restraint, stresses that we did not feel before will accumulate without us even knowing it. It will be important to relax with plants, potpourri, and other fragrances to prevent unseen stress from accumulating.
